No Pants Day - Fredericton, NB

Our First Annual No Pants Day celebrations went off with very few hitches. We began the day by hanging the pants flag for all to see. By 6pm, we were ready for the No Pants Day Pre-Willie Cinco De Mayo BBQ. Cynthia's house mates were already in their boxers and ready to BBQ, God love 'em. Over the course of the evening, we had about 20 people show up in various forms of pantlessness (I'm the one in the Superman boxers). It did start to rain, so we took shelter by the Boxer Banner and Spongebob NoPants. Then, just as the party was starting, I had to leave to go see a Willie Nelson concert. A few people at the concert asked about the shirt and pantslessness, and I explained the holiday to them. You'll be happy to know that I spent most of the evening in front of Willie and his rather large Texas flag. Or maybe to Texans, it was a regular sized flag.

At any rate, just after I left the party, the cops showed up. Oddly enough, not because of the lack of pants or the large amounts of alcohol, which they had absolutely no problem with, but because of a noise complaint. But when they arrived, they realized that the music wasn't actually that loud. They asked co-host Cynthia if she had turned the music down as they arrived and she said that she didn't see them pull up, so no. They let everyone off with a warning and asked about the large No Pants Day banner flying in the front yard. She explained the holiday to them, and they thought it was "kind of neat" and wished us well, as long as we turned it down. I was sad to find out that, since people were worried, no one took pictures of the cops.

By the time I got back from Willie, with my stylin' new hat, the party had moved indoors. See, in Atlantic Canada, parties always end in the kitchen. That's where the food and booze is kept, so we all just end up partying in the kitchen. We took a few pics there and those of us who were left took a few turns at the Spongebob NoPants pinata until he spllied glorious candy. All in all, a success, and a good time was had by several.

I'm proud to have co-hosted this city's No Pants Day celebrations, and I'm already looking forward to No Pants Day 2007. Hope you all had fun too. Enjoy!
